Wanted is a photo editing app by Portegno Apps. Free

This is the first review we have done that isn't a game so it will be done a bit differently. Instead of gameplay, graphics and sound we will have purpose (How well the app serves its purpose), design (how well the app is done and the ease of use) and our opinion (what we think of this type of app)

Wanted is a very entertaining app which I spent hours with photos of my friends to make them a wanted criminal from the wild west. This app is made to pimp out photos of yourself and your friends. This app and its sister app, Cartoonizme serve this purpose very well and Wanted actually make the pictures look like they are straight out from the Wild West. There are many options that make the wanted poster feel very realistic from the possible wording and reward to how well the added items that can be put on the people suit a real person. I am yet to see a photo editor that is as entertaining as this, except Wobbles but for a totally different reason!

This app is very well designed and offers alot of choices to play around with. The text around the edge of the picture is very simple to add. When you start the app up the options for every different bit of text are able to be changed to whatever you choose. The criminals title, reward, status/other info and name are able to be changed to. I like these options as I half expected it to have pre-made designs that you choose from. There are alot of choices to put onto the picture right from a gun to a cowboy hat. When each of these choices are selected they are put on the screen, where you can make it bigger, move it around and rotate is all with just using the touchscreen. When you are happy with the poster you can download it to your Saved Photos to keep it in a higher resolution.

My opinion on this app is that it is very good to make fun of friends or to entertain yourself with pictures of yourself. I believe this is better than Cartoonizme, the sister app and it is currently cheaper at the ridiculous price of free! I was told by Portegno Apps that Wanted is having a bug where it crashes in its current version but this will be updated in Version 1.3. Buy this now while it is free.

Purpose- 9/10
Design- 8.5/10
Our Opinion- 9/10

Smash It Up is a Target game by Tag Games. $0.99

I reviewed this game while it was All Stars Quarterback. It is basically the same apart from instead of using a football, Smash It Up uses bricks. I quite enjoyed this game with its simple gameplay and great design. There are two different game modes, versus and time attack to play. I will go into detail about these later on. This game kept me coming back for more all the time, a very addictive game.

The graphics in this game are super impressive for a $1 game. There aren't many games for $1 that I have seen put these sorts of graphics in their game and pull it off as well as Tag Games have. I decided to be different when I first played the game and chose to do Time Attack and lost half of the time just looking at everything. The game is very polished and responds well with what you want to do. It is easy to control and to zoom in and out to find what to hit.

I quite liked the sound on the intro screen. It seemed to fit well with the theme of the game, but I was disappointed that there was no music at all in the game, just sound effects throwing the brick and hitting objects. I would like to see an option to maybe have the music on in-game for people who want it on.

The game as said above has two game modes, versus and time attack. In versus you can choose easy one player or two player. I love two player as it becomes a big strategy game as we will be hunting around for the best items to hit. In one player there are three difficulty levels. In each one of these modes you choose who you are playing with out of four choices. They have no special attributes or anything, just who you like. There are four rounds of the game where each person who three throws at hitting stuff. It gets harder to score big points as going second in round 4 on your last throw means that 23 items could possibly already be hit. Smaller items will give you more points and the person with the most points at the end wins. Time Attack is different in that instead of versing an opponent you are versing the clock. As soon as you start the clock starts counting down from 90 seconds. These modes are both fun but some things I believe could be added to keep you coming back for more. I would like to see choices to change where to play and have three or four options. After a while there is nothing exciting on the current area as I know where it all is. I would also like to see a highscores board for Time Attack so there is some competition brought into the game.

This is an excellent pick up and play game that has the potential to become more. The current version is an excellent way to relieve your stress by smashing a window or two. Very unique gameplay that is super fun to play. I would recommend you to consider buying this game.

Kenny Rogers Video Poker

Kenny Rogers Video Poker is a gambling game by PlayScreen. $4.99

Being a poker fan I was interested to see if this game met my Gambling needs. I haven't had much experience with the video poker so this review will be based on what it is like for people who have never played poker or haven't played it much. Experienced Video Pokerers will enjoy this game also. The game starts you with $500 to bet and spend. There is nothing to achieve in the game which disappoints me. I would have liked to see some achievements such as 100 wins, $500 down etc etc.

The graphics are quite good are achieve what is needed for the game. Everything is clear and easy to see and easy for new players to find what is going on. The controls are nice and big, making it clear to what is going on. Nice and polished gameplay which I haven't seen on very many slot games.

I love the sound on the game! Part of a song by Kenny Rogers is played repeatedly once you turn the option to have it on. The sound effects are good but I found them annoying and in the way of listening to the main song. If you buy this game I would recommend that you only have the song playing.

The game is easy enough to play if you have previous experience of what the different ranks for the cards are. In the game it only says how much you can win with each one so it is best to find out how to win. As said above there is only one mode of endless play where you just try and see how much you can win. Achievements or other options in my opinion should be put in the game to keep you coming back for more. You can bet $1 up to a max of $5 per turn and the style of poker isn't Texas Hold 'em. You draw the 5 cards before choosing which ones you wish to hold, then you draw again and whatever comes up is your final hand.

This is a good game to pick up and play for a few minutes, but apart from the music will not keep you playing for much longer in its current update. I hope that PlayScreen can continue updating it and making the game better. A well done video poker game.

Tank Warrior

Tank Warrior is a shooting game by Twin Gravity. $1.99

Tank Warrior surprised me with how fun this game is. It is very simple and easy to play, just tilt to move the army tank and touch where you want to shoot at. There are eight level packs to choose from, each has four levels and a boss level at the end of it. There is no scoring, no time limit, so it is a great game to go flat out or take your time completing it. I was interested in how it would go with Crazy Tanks being so dominant but it is a totally different game.

The graphics in this game are simple but I was surprised to see that it was really detailed. Some of the backgrounds look really good and fit the game really well. The game is really responsive with the accelerometer moving the tank and shooting at the army people.

I love the background music in this game, it is catchy and fun, really enjoyable to listen to while blowing up helicopters. The sound effects aren't that realistic and are out of sync with the game, which is a shame, as they let the game down. If you decide to buy it I would recommend to play with the music on, but turn the sound effects off.

The game has only one mode to play. You choose your original level pack to play from the start of that level. The first four levels are fairly easy to play. Soldiers will be placed on various objects above you and you must shoot them down. Every now and then a level will have a helicopter fly past, forcing you to drive backwards to destroy it. After the four levels you will have a boss level where you must destroy a larger and stronger version of the in-game enemies. There are three upgrades which are available to get from enemies which make it alot easier to defeat the levels. There are difficulty levels which will last you a while as the game becomes gradually harder just on easy.

This is a fun game to pick up and play for a few minute or for hours. There is alot of replay value going through the whole game in the four difficulty levels. Easy to get the hang of, if you enjoy arcade style games I would check it out.

Mystic Jewels

Author: iPhone Reviews // Category:

Mystic Jewels is NOT a match 3 game by PlayScreen. $0.99

Mystic Jewels is a very clever strategy game. While it does look like another matching game, it is far from it. The aim of the game is to remove all jewels from the board. This is done by upgrading the Jewels until the are destroyed and sent out waves which start a chain reaction, earning you more points. It sounds simple but if you don't make big chain reactions, the number of moves which you get will get be down dramatically, causing you to lose the game. This is very addictive and a great game to play.

The graphics are simple and not over the top. The Jewels are pretty detailed and look nice and bright. There is a background image of a mountain that is faint and doesn't take over from the Jewels. One thing that could be added to this is that the background image changes every level? Overall very good.

I like the background music in this game, its simple and easy going. There is a louder sound made when the jewels are upgraded and explode which I don't particularly like when the sound is up high. I would like to see the option to change the sound of both the background music and the sound effects.

The gameplay is very fun and I have played it countless times trying to beat my high score. There are different jewels that upgrade in the same way apart from one section where it can become one of two jewels. The board at the start of the level has a range of different jewels as well as white lights which prevent the waves from getting to other jewels, increasing the difficulty in higher levels. The way jewels upgrade are from a small bronze jewel, to a square red jewel, to a purple jewel then it can split to either a diamond (which has to be upgraded two more times before exploding) or a large green jewel. The last two are what explode and set off the chain reaction. The Green jewel only sends waves horizontally and vertically while the diamond sends it all directions. If hit by a wave the jewels will only upgrade until it is at the point where it is destroyed, sending off more waves and starting a chain reaction. You start with 10 moves and each jewel destroyed gives you another move, so chains are good in this game. Scoring also gives you combos with chain reactions. You play until you have no moves left, which for me with a little bit of experience is about 10 levels. I would like to see another game mode. One idea of mine is where you see how many you can destroy on one level, with destroyed jewels getting replaced with another random jewel.

This is a very addicting game with a lot of replay value as you try and master the game and beat your high scores. Very polished game that was well thought out. Anyone who enjoys puzzle games would enjoy this, definitely consider buying this for its sale price, well worth it.

Petri

Author: iPhone Reviews // Category:

Petri is coloring game by Matthew Gillingham. $0.99

Petri is a simple game where you must color in the screen a certain color to get to the next level. Its quite a fun little game but I couldn't stand playing it for long periods of time as it got very repetitive. With 100 levels to complete it will take a good half an hour to complete all of them, I managed to get my time down to about 20 seconds per level.

The graphics are good. They are bright and do their job. Nothing extra could really be done with the game graphics wise without putting the price up. I don't think it should be done as the gameplay isn't really worth more than the 99 cents. The game responds quite well when it is touched. Sometimes it doesn't remove the colors when it is on the edge of the screen but no major problems.

I could have really enjoyed the background music to this game. It has a fun, up beat tempo but I believe it has been ruined by a high pitched sound that goes off all the time. The sound has nothing to do with the game and I believe it should be removed as it is quite horrid.

As I said before, it is quite a simple game. The controls are very simple, tap and/or drag your finger around the screen to remove all colors from the screen and double tap to add color to the screen. I found this quite easy to master after a couple of go's by just removing all color and continue removing it until the color required popped up on one of the edges. Each level has a slightly different pattern to work with, such as a pixelated level or the colors were in the shape of diamonds. Each level also would say the color required to fill the screen with at the bottom right hand corner, sometimes this is hard to see as the font is the color required. There is no high scores table yet for fastest times and I would like to see this.

Overall it is a very polished game. There isn't much of a replay factor in the game as I believe that it would get very repetitive after 100 or 200 levels. A quick and fun pick up and play game and one that is at least worth considering.

Paper Airplane

Author: iPhone Reviews // Category:

Paper Airplane is a game of survival by Lilasoft. $0.99

Paper Airplane is an endless yet simple game where you must dodge certain items while collecting others. There are three difficulty levels, easy, medium and hard and on each you have three lives to try and last as long as possible. The game seemed hard for me even on easy with the controls to start with, it may make a difference when you play using the y axis controls, but after a few tries you get the hang of the gameplay.

The graphics aren't that flash. Everything is pixelated and the birds are hard to see at times. I would like to see updated graphics as well as the game zoomed in a bit so it is easier to see everything. One thing that is good in the game is the uniqueness of everything in it, the game description says that every background, every cloud is unique in its shape and gradient. The game is responsive and quickly moves the airplane to your movement. Sometimes it moves a bit too much but with practice I am sure it wouldn't happen.

The only sound provided for this game are the sound effects of balloons popping and birds flapping, which at even with the volume turned down halfway I found loud and a bit irritating. You can play your own music in this game and I would recommend only having that on.

As I said above, the game is theoretically endless. There are no levels as such in the game, it is a casual survival mode only. Birds are flying at you at various speeds and you must dodge them as well as running into the kites and balloons to pop them, earning points. After being hit by three birds the game is over and you put your score onto the High Scores list. Currently there is no global high scores list, I believe this should be added to put a bit of competition into the game.

This game is for casual play only. There is a small bit of replay factor early on until you master the game but after that I wouldn't expect anyone to play it much. An alright game for only $0.99, but not a must buy.

Sneezies

Author: iPhone Reviews // Category:

Sneezies is a popping game by Antair Games. $0.99

Sneezies is a cheap, fun game which can be played for a few minutes or a few hours. Never have I played a game where I am shouting at my iDevice because the cute ball of fluff won't sneeze! The aim of the game is to pop so many sneezies each level to advance, this is surprisingly hard and very addictive. With two similar games mode, Classic and Challenge to complete with 60 levels all up, it will take a long time to complete this game.

The graphics in this game are very detailed, while being cute at the same time. The game is bright and colorful with its detailed backgrounds and cute Sneezies. It is very polished and is very smooth when lots of Sneezies are popping at once. It is very good for a game of this price.

I absolutely adore the sound of this game. The relaxing background music is enjoyable to listen to and the giggling I get out of hearing the Sneezing sneeze is priceless. It is great to play with the sound turned on.

The game as said before is quite simple. In classic mode you have one sneeze that you must use to pop so many Sneezies to advance to the next level. Once you touch anywhere on the screen, sneeze dust is released and any Sneezie that comes in contact with the dust also sneezes and starts a chain reaction. As you get further into the game is becomes gradually harder with more sneezies required to be popped to advance. In challenge mode you have five sneezes available to use to pop a certain number of Sneezies. As you pop them more come in their place before you sneeze again. If you pop over 75% of Sneezies on the screen in one sneeze, you get another turn. Both modes are fun to play and both very challenging.

This game has a huge replay factor. Certain levels will have you restarting it countless times to get past the level. A very fun, yet challenging game. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys puzzle games, a great buy.

Smiles

Smiles is a 3 in a row game by Sykhronics Entertainment. $4.99

Smiles is an app which features their two games, Smiles Drop and Smiles Zen at a discounted price. This game really makes 3 in a row fun again with four game modes, three themes and over 140 achievements to aim for. Smiles Zen is inspired by games like Solitare and Mahjongg by matching up all pieces on the board into rows of three or more matching pieces to win. Smiles Drop, Drop + and Avalanche are inspired by games like Bejeweled and Tetris where you must make matches and survive as long as possible to get a high score.

The graphics in this game are very well done. All the games are bright and colorful with a very polished feel to the game. The gameplay is very smooth, even when making lots of combos in a row it doesn't freeze or pixelate. The simple design of this game works wonders.

I enjoy listening to my own music in this game. Songs with fast tempo are excellent when making heaps of combos in Smiles Drop. It was a great idea to have this option in the game.

I will talk about the gameplay for the two main versions, Zen and Drop. Drop + and Avalanche are just varieties of Smiles Drop. Smiles Zen is a matching game where you are against the clock to finish the puzzle. You have one piece in your hand and must swap them with other pieces until you have matched up everything into rows of 3 or more. This is quite challenging and has a countless number of achievements to get while doing this game. There are also four difficulty levels, easy, medium, hard and master for everyones liking. Smiles Drop is the more time consuming game, but personally my favourite. This game is done so you must match rows in the same way but as they are matched they disappear and new blocks fall from the top. This game reminds me alot of Aurora Feint, but better. The way to get big scores are by getting combos, which can be done by quickly making matches until blocks stop falling. Ice and rock blocks are also on the map and must be dropped a certain number of rows before they break. The game takes a while to complete, only ending when there are no more possible moves so Drop, Drop + and Avalanche have most of the achievements for you to achieve. With three levels, easy, medium and hard as well as long play, this will keep you going for days.. or whenever your iPhone's battery runs out.

This game has an unbelievable amount of replay value. 140+ achievements to get, highscores to bear and the addictive nature of the game makes it worth every cent. If you enjoy puzzle games I wouldn't hesitate to buy it, the most original matching game I have seen in a long time.

Jigsaw Wild is a puzzle game by 99Games. $1.99

Jigsaw Wild is a themed jigsaw app. I was quite surprised with the number of puzzles that you got for $1.99, more than 90 puzzles already on the app! I wondered how well a jigsaw game would go on the iPhone and this one delivered I believe. There are a few parts of the game that I would like to tweak but has a good variety of puzzles to complete.

The graphics of the puzzles are pretty good. The puzzles which you must solve are real life photos which are nice and detailed. Solving the puzzle is very smooth, when the right pieces are joined, they click together and can be moved around. One bit that could be worked on is that after selecting a picture to make, there is a section where it freezes and it doesn't allow you to start the photo when you choose.

The sounds in the menu are related to the theme of the app, in this case safari. There isn't much in game music, just little clicking sounds when the puzzle pieces are joined together. I almost had a heart attack when the puzzle shattered at the start! I recommend you have the sound not on full when you play this game ;)

The game is basically getting a puzzle and trying to finish it as fast as possible. With over 90 puzzles to try and beat your time at, it will take a while. To drag puzzle pieces just hold and drag your finger around the screen. The only trouble is when you have a few pieces left sometimes they are hidden behind the puzzle. I would like the already joined pieces to automatically be put in the background to make it easier. You can change your difficulty level by playing with 4 to 24 pieces to put together and rectangular or irregular puzzle pieces.

These games have a large replay factor and will keep you entertained for ages. The amount of puzzles have made the $1.99 worth it. Quite a good game, would be better if the couple of problems mentioned above were fixed. I am sure 99Games will improve the game and add more puzzles so a great buy.

Wordsworth is a word making game by 99Games. $1.99

Wordsworth is an addicting game where you must achieve certain point totals by creating words that link together on the grid. Everytime you achieve the required total you move up a level. This game is easy to go and play straight away. When the game finished downloading I automatically went to play the game and got the hang of it straight away.

The graphics are quite simple and expertly done. There is nothing over the top or in your face as it is not needed for a game like this. The game has a slick feel to it with the ease of making words.

There is a nice background music when playing the game. It is easy to listen to and most of the time I can't even notice that there is in game music. Sound effects for the game are used for everything in game and fit the app quite well. A nice option to turn off the background music while keeping the sound effects was recently implemented.

The game is played with letters on hexagonal tiles. Grids of 4x4, 5x5, 6x6 or 7x7 are used in the gameplay. These can be changed in the options. You must make words on the grid bigger than the minimum word length which you can set again the options. Three different game rules are used for any type of person. TWL which are the US rules. SOWPODS are the rules for all other English speaking countries, as they spell words differently (color, colour). ENABLE is the most researched and maintained word list, so both TWL and SOWPODS. When in trouble there are bomb words which are on a timer and will explode if not used in time. You have a chance to having green or gold tiles to come out as they have special multipliers to that letter.

This is a game for anyone. The addictive gameplay will keep you coming back for more. 99Games listen to feedback and regularly tune the game to what the customers ask which is great. I would recommend you try the lite version and if you like it don't hesitate to buy it!

Chess Lite is a Chess Game by 99Games. $0.99

Chess Lite is the simplified version of 99Games' Chess Pro. This review will be a bit different to other ones, as we will be comparing the Pro and Lite version.

The lite version is $3 cheaper than the pro version but is missing some features which you receive in the pro version. The difficulty level is stuck at medium, while the pro version has easy, medium and hard. The lite version is designed for beginners to chess so I would like to see an option to have easy or medium. In the lite version you can still play one and two player but there are no variants, just regular chess. The pro version has suicide and losers mode. Chess lite only has the 2d version of the chess while the pro version has the 2D version and two 3D versions.

Overall it is good for someone who just wants a cheap way to play chess. Unlimited games for 99 cents is a good deal. But if you want variety I suggest the Pro version

Gameplay- 8.5/10
Graphics- 7/10
Sound- 8/10
Overall- 8/10

I would recommend this game if you enjoy- Chess

99Games Special: Chess Pro

Chess Pro is a Chess game by 99Games. $3.99

Chess Pro is tagged as the chess game for advanced players. With more options than the lite version, it will keep you coming back for more. Very easy to pick up and play for experienced chess players and beginners alike. There are many options to how you play your game. Three difficulty levels, Easy, Medium and Hard. Three variants of the game, Regular, Suicide and Losers. One and two player mode as well as three different boards available to play on.

I am very pleased with the graphics of the two 3D boards. The smallest detail in the game are picked up and is visually impressive to play. There is no waiting time in the game as the computer moves straight away. When you tap a button it loads whatever it is with lightning speed. With many competitors in the chess range, I believe the smoothness and look of this game is enough to play the other games out of the water.

The sound is pretty basic, small ring noises are made everytime a piece is moved. Instead of listening to their in-game music there is an option to listen to your own music, which I love. All apps I believe should have this option, there will always be someone who can't stand your music, no matter how good it is.

The menu is well set out and easy to find what you are looking for. The gameplay is pretty simple, after choosing your variants and difficulty level you play the game like you would normally. To move your pieces you click on the piece you wish to move and then circles pop up in the available spots, these blend in well with the board.

This game is for anyone interested or previously played chess. While it is recommended for advanced chess players, it has an easy mode for beginners which isn't on the lite version so I would recommend it to anyone. Great game, visually and for its gameplay.

Gameplay- 8.5/10
Graphics-9.5/10
Sound- 7.5/10

Spore Origins

Author: iPhone Reviews // Category:

Spore Origins is a game of survival by Electronic Arts Nederland BV. $6.99

Spore Origins is the cell section of EA's Spore on PC, Mac and Wii. The game is very easy to pick up and play straight away. With only one option to start with, Evolution, the first few of the 30 levels explain how to play and what you must do to advance to the next level. The controls are very simple to understand, tilt the device in the desired way to make your Spore move around. This can take a few levels to master but ends up being very easy. In the practice level it starts with bubble bars on the horizontal and vertical axis to help you, I would like to see an option to have the bubble bar in game as it would be very helpful for beginners. Later on in the game an achievement is unlocked letting you play survival mode, which is based on the same concept of evolution.

The graphics in this game are very smooth considering all the stuff that is going on. Each creature has been designed to perfection, from how the seaweed floats in the water to the action of the jellyfish swimming in the water. The game doesn't freeze at all when things get hectic in the game such as eating eight tadpoles in a row, which I am very impressed with. The detail which can be made with an infinite number of choices in the creature editor are excellent also. There are 12 possible upgrades which can be made to the creature such as spikes and eyes and these look great.

The in game music suits it perfectly. A new age theme is used causing easy flowing music that is easy to listen to. The music fits the cell stage perfect and is one of the few games I like to play with the music on.

The menu has a simple, easy to look at lay out which doesn't go over the top. There options to play either the Evolution or Survival mode. The creatures button shows which creatures you have currently made and currently playing with. You can have 10 creatures going at one time. For the codeword to razorianfly's contest, it is the nineteenth word in the next paragraph, good luck. The achievements show achievements that you have completed in game, they are hidden until you have unlocked them. Options will let you change the music levels and to calibrate your tilt levels to improve how easy it is for you. Help will tell you about everything in the game, such as how to use the creature editor controls or the objective of evolution mode.

The gameplay in evolution mode is to eat your way through 30 levels. Every 5 levels is an extended level where you must negotiate your way through a maze filled with creatures and get to the end. Getting past the maze puts you onto the next zone filled with new creatures The levels in between are designed so you eat creatures smaller than you to fill up the DNA bar which is on the top left of the screen. As you progress through the game, your Spore gets bigger and you can eat more creatures. The last three levels are boss levels where you must destroy large creatures in order to finish the game. Dieing in the game is by getting stung, attacked or shot at by other creatures and losing all your hearts. Survival mode is all about eating the little pills and evading the creatures which come onto the screen. You keep going until you die. The creature editor is very detailed and responds to each little touch. The color, pattern and weapons and size on your Spore can all be edited by pinching, pulling, poking and dragging parts on the screen.

There is some replay factor in the game by creating more Spore creatures and completing the game over and over again to unlock all the achievements. The game is good for casual players with the simple process of eat or be eaten, while being really addictive at the same time. Boss and maze levels will stretch the most experience gamer, while having fun at the same time. The game is very well done, I would like to see add ons or more Spore versions on the iDevices such as later stages in the Spore's life. Worth the sale price of $6.99

Texas Hold'em

Author: iPhone Reviews // Category:

iTunes Link

Texas Hold'em is a poker game by Apple Inc. $4.99

Texas Hold'em is Apple's only game on the App Store to this date and is the premier poker game available on the App Store. It is essentially the upgraded version of the click wheel game of the same name. The game is easy to pick-up and play for people who have previously played the game but may be difficult for first timers. The instructions are somewhat helpful to the people who are new to poker, showing the hand rankings and how to fold, bet etc. but it doesn't explain about what the Flop, Turn and River are so they may not know what its all for. There are ten different venues to play at, starting from the garage where it is free to enter, but winning gets you very little profit, all the way up to playing in the big league where the entry fee is a hefty total but the rewards make it worth the risk.

Apple didn't let anything be less than perfect in this game. This can be seen by the visually stunning graphics during game play. Instead of having cartoon figures as your opponents, they are real people who have been filmed and placed in the game to show betting, folding and angry when you take all their chips. The smoothness of these actions is also remarkably good and doesn't freeze the game. The only downside to this realistic feel is the background. All ten venues are computer generated. It would be nice to see real places completing the real feel. When the device is held sideways the game comes turns into a poker table which only shows the avatars of people you are playing against, but it allows you to have your own character.

The sound in the game is also very well done. All the actions made during the hand have a sound that matches to them right down to dealing out the cards of moving the chips into the pot. Again, this adds to the realistic feel of the entire game. Background music is played on all of the games and has a nice tune to it and doesn't get irritating after hours of it.

The menu has large, clear buttons for the different options. There is single player mode where you choose the location that you can play your game at. There is multiplayer so you can play friends and family over the same Wi-Fi network, not to play people from around the world. The settings option allows you to change the effects volume, the game music volume and other little tweaks which can help you enjoy the game more. Your statistics are shown for both single player and multiplayer, showing the number of games you have played as well as what percentage of them you came 1st, 2nd or 3rd in. It also shows the biggest pot that you have won. Lastly the help button is there to give you tips on how to play the game, such as what to do to fold or show emotions, and the hand rankings.

The gameplay is quite simple once you know how to play the game. Once you start the game you have two options of how to play it, either the slower but visually better first person game or the faster birds eye view game. Whichever one you choose to do makes no difference, just depends on your personal choices. You start the game with nine players around the table and you bet, call and fold until you are the last player or until you are eliminated by having no more chips left. In the higher stake games the game will involve two tables where you need to finish in the top 3 on the first table before taking a certain number of chips depending on where you finished to table 2.

As this is a gambling game, the game has a huge replay factor. Getting to the last table isn't easy and you will be spending hours on the game before reaching it. This is a great card game and would appeal to any poker players, card players or people who have alot of patience and nerve. This is the best poker style game I have seen on the app store and would certainly be your first choice if you were interested in getting a poker game.

Fieldrunners

Author: iPhone Reviews // Category:

iTunes Link

Fieldrunners is a tower defense by Subatomic Studios. $4.99

Fieldrunners is the most original tower defense game in the app store to this date. They have taken the principal of runners trying to escape by getting from the start to the end of a path and widened it out so the path is up to you. The games provides an infinite number of ways to construct your map consisting of Gatling Tower, Goo Tower, Missile Tower and Tesla Tower each with 2 optional upgrades to make the towers stronger.

The graphics in this game are very impressive. The cartoon feel to the game makes it that little bit easier to not feel so guilty about killing the fieldrunners. The smoothness of the entire game is top class, there is no glitchiness what so ever from the moving and shooting of the towers to the way the fieldrunners try to run to safety. The only slight downside to the graphics is that when you zoom in heaps by pinching two fingers together, the picture gets slighty pixelated.

The music in the game is quite enjoyable. Each fieldrunner has a sound that they make when they die, but this gets quite irritating at times. Overall quite good.

The menu is very easy to look at and captures your attention with the great art on the left of the screen. The screen makes it easy for first time players with easy to read links. There is play, this is where you choose what map you want, currently there is either grasslands or crossroads. There are two modes for each of these maps, Classic, try to survive 100 levels and Endless, survive for as long as possible. Each of these two modes have three difficulty levels to them, easy medium and hard for anytype of gamer. Next is the resume button for games which you are in progress of playing, saving the game is easy and by going back to the menu or clicking the home button to exit the app saves it automatically. Your scores are shown next, the classic and endless scores are merged and the scores are only shown with different tabs for the maps, saving space. Finally there is help with tells some information about each tower and what its properties are.

The best part of this app is obviously the gameplay. It doesn't matter which map or difficulty level you start with, the fieldrunners at the start of the game are very easy to beat and gradually get harder to beat. There are fieldrunners which are exclusive to certain maps and many different types on both of them. Every 10 levels are boss levels which bring out the strongest opponents you will find ranging from large blimps to tanks and robots. The maps are all a rectangle shape and allow ample room to create your path for fieldrunners to follow. Grasslands was the first map and has one entry and one exit. Crossroads gets a little bit more difficult and you have to cater for two entries and two exits.

With all this it has a massive replay factor which is an added bonus to any game. Trying to get a perfect score on hard or surviving to level 200 will consume hours of gameplay which you won't even notice. To move towers onto the field you must click and drag from the towers button. You have the option, found in the Settings, to show a grid on the map which makes it easier to place and the ability to zoom in to make sure that tesla is placed in the right place to kill the boss. Version 1.2 is currently in the final stages of development with one new map and two new towers which will add to the amount of gameplay you can get out of it!

This is an extraordinary game which would appeal to anyone who craves tower defense games or anyone who likes playing games everynow and then. In my opinion this is the best game on the app store under $5. Get it now!

Asphalt 4 Elite Racing

Author: iPhone Reviews // Category:

Hello all, this is the first review of a game I already have. Starting in a couple days I will start the reviews for the loyal developers.

iTunes Link

Asphalt 4: Elite Racing is a racing game by Gameloft. $5.99

Asphalt 4 is one of the first true racing games on the App Store. Before its releases the racing games were scattered with small cartoon versions and we called for a full racing game, Asphalt answered. With 28 different cars able to purchase, 5 different race modes across 9 cities, Asphalt brought a complete feeling to it.

The graphics in this game are amazing. The smooth feel as you are hurtling down the detailed streets running into cars were superior to all others at the time of its release. The cars look awesome, but they have worked into getting everything else up to scratch which really gets people interested in this game. Different camera angles in the game are an added bonus and contribute to the replay factor of the game.

The music in-game is good in places, and not so good in others. The good part is that new music is used in each country, which stops it being repetitive after hours playing the game. The disappointing music is noises the cars make, from the breaking to the sirens on the Cop Chase. But overall it is pretty good.

Ok to the menu. You can choose your car for each race, and buy new ones when money becomes available and your level is high enough. As well as just buying the cars you can customize them by upgrading everything from the engine to the tyres as well as changing the color of the car. The second option is to choose your location, game mode for that location and to race your car. The game modes for the game are
Race- 3 laps of the course to come in the top 3
Beat 'Em All- 3 laps of crash and bash. You have to get 6 takedowns to win
Cash Attack- 3 laps to get as much cash as possible from money icons, takedowns, using nitro and jumps. Get the most money to win
Cop Chase- Be the cop and catch the leader of the chasing cars and take him down to win
Duel- Make a bet of $5000, $10000 or $15000 and race 1 on 1 for two laps
The next option is where you get to choose from which one of your fangirls you will use for that race. Each one gives you special bonuses in the race. There are setting for the game such as gameplay, sound and languages. Lastly there is the option to play multiplayer against other people in the same room, which is quite fun.

To the gameplay, when you first play the instructions of how to play come up and the driving option comes up, where you choose one of the three, which can be changed at anytime. The aim of this game is to get the gold cup in everyone of the races and complete the game 100%. There is no difficulty setting so after a few cracks at each game mode, it is quite easy to win all the races with ease, which is disappointing. After you have completed the game there is nothing apart from trying to improve your online score and just wanted to play a racing game that will get you back to the game, as nothing new happens. The game also goes surprisingly quickly being completed in four to five hours.

Controlling the car/motorbike is very sold and easy to use. In the car getting used to the drifting takes a bit of time because anytime you turn a sharp corner you automatically drift. Motorbikes cannot drift and therefore cannot take sharp corners so you bump into the edge quite a bit. The A.I drivers are quite ruthless and from race one they will be trying to knock you out.

All in all this is an excellent game for any hardcore racing enthusiast down to the casual gamer. I would recommend this to anyone who can afford to buy it, it is well worth this reduced price of $5.99

Graphics 9/10
Gameplay 8/10
Sound 8/10
Overall 8.5/10
